Local Offer for Care experienced young parents

If you are a Care Leaver who is pregnant, preparing to become a parent or with a child or children, we will support you and your child, as the corporate grandparent.

We will ensure that:

  • You will have supported with a baby pack for your first child, at least 8 weeks prior to babies due date, which will provide some basic equipment, tips and guidance around preparing for baby and beyond.
  • You have  access to a Care leaver stay and play group session weekly on Thursdays at the Oasis drop in hub 10-12pm. This provides a space where you can build your social network, meet other parents get advice and guidance around parenting or support plans.
  • You have access to fun community trips via the stay and play group to help you learn and be comfortable in accessing community activities for your child/ren. This includes swim sessions, community workshops or activities, zoos and more.
  • You will have access to Art play sessions held monthly at the Wolverhampton Art Gallery via a free ticket code, contact your YPA for this.
  • You can have access to a Grand mentor via the mentoring programme who is an experienced parent. This will provide you a mentoring relationship, someone you can talk to who can support and offer advice helping increase your support network.
  • You will be supported to access support via your local family hub who offer parenting programmes, stay and play groups, activities, health support and more: you can check out support available and the hubs across the city at: Family Hubs | City Of Wolverhampton Council. As a care leaver you can secure a priority place on any programme by contacting your YPA.
  • You can access free parenting support via  www.inourplace.co.uk  which offers workshops / courses and resources around early pregnancy, labour, parenting and beyond. You can access these by entering the Wolverhampton Access Code: wolves1
  • Where there are challenges and you may require social services support via a pre-birth or parenting assessment, You will be made aware of the process and expectations of this through a joint visit from the senior social worker and your YPA.
  • You can access the baby bank in Wolverhampton via a referral from or YPA. They can assist with children’s items such as cots/ moses baskets/ milk/ nappies/ wipes and more when struggling.
  • You will be supported to have access to partner agencies such as healthy start, book start to support your child’s health and development.
  • You will have access to EET advice and childcare advice when you feel ready to return back to work or training via the stay and play group help on Thursdays 10-12 at the Oasis Hub.
  • In the event of childcare difficulties due to an planned urgent or required course for social care, childcare support can be explored or funding to support this. Please ask your YPA who can arrange a discussion with the senior social worker.
